MiMi K Biography

Miriam Melvin, known as MiMi K with professional friends and colleagues, is a native Chicagoan who now calls Raleigh, North Carolina home. She is a six-time nominated and two-time Emmy Award-Winning news producer for the Triangle’s #1 Noon newscast at WRAL-TV.


MiMi K has also received awards for long-form subject matter such as the documentary “Black and Blue”; which examined the relationship between local police and the Black community.

MiMi K uses her position to bring awareness to civic and social causes as well as serving on the inaugural Diversity, Equity and Inclusion board at Capitol Broadcasting Co., Inc to ensure fair and balanced coverage across all socioeconomic levels and racial backgrounds. MiMi K’s passion is to raise the visibility and inclusivity of stories of Black, Brown, and marginalized people in our community.


She has served as the Mistress of Ceremonies at numerous conventions, galas, and fundraisers. In her role as a Keynote Speaker, Miriam addresses various topics including DEI in the workplace, Minorities in Communications and Women in Business.


MiMi K is a financial and active Ruby member of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Incorporated. As a member she served as the historian, undergraduate advisor and most recently the chair of the Inaugural 5K Run/Walk Committee. The event raised money for local scholarships and The S.I.S.I., a local non-profit that provides transportation assistance for cancer patients and caregivers.


She has served at the Raleigh Rescue Mission (women and children) leading health and exercise programs, Food Bank of NC; assembling meals for underprivileged children in the Raleigh-area, and most recently as an Oak City Cares volunteer; providing monthly support and service to the homeless population in Raleigh, NC.


MiMi K enjoys fitness and introducing products that will help people achieve their fitness goals. She currently serves as a Black Girls Run Raleigh Ambassador, as well as an Ambassador for BibBoards, Nuun Hydration and Together We Stand NC. In these roles she inspires others to run for their health and engage in dialogue across racial boundaries. Her podcast, “An Active Point of View with MiMi Melvin” allows her to conduct interviews with figures across the country who are balancing life, entrepreneurship, health, and family.


MiMi K is married to Marcus Melvin. They have three sons; Marcus, Joshua, and Timothy. They are all servant-members at Grace Christian Church in Raleigh.
